Weather Forecast- Tuesday, February 20th

Good Tuesday morning! It’s a warm start across the ArkLaMiss as temperatures are sitting in the upper 60’s with cloudy skies and humid conditions. It’s feeling a bit more like summer out there to start off and it’s fitting as we will once again likely break some record high temperatures this afternoon, like yesterday. The forecast high temperature today will be around 83°, which could break Monroe’s previous record high of 82° set back in 1986. Skies are going to start off overcast with some breaks allowing sunshine in this afternoon. Winds will be breezy from the south. There is only a slight chance for a shower today, if we see any rain it will be light and isolated.

Overnight lows will only drop down in the mid 60’s as rain chances increase by sunrise. Winds will stay from the south at 5-10 mph.

Tomorrow we are going to be seeing widespread showers and t’storms across the ArkLaMiss with heavy rainfall leading to potential flash flooding, especially for areas further NW in our coverage area. As a cold front draped over the ArkLaTex advances eastward, it will stall out over our coverage area and moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will appear like a “conveyor belt” streaming across the region. All this moisture being pumped into our atmosphere will allow for some impressive rainfall through the day and a lot of it will carry over into Thursday, as well. The widespread rain should begin by late morning and we will see waves of heavy rainfall through the course of the afternoon and overnight. Rainfall totals, on average, will be higher through the NW parts of our coverage area, specifically through south-central Arkansas. Over the next three days, most spots in the coverage area will see at LEAST 1″ of rainfall. Areas along and north of I-20 will be more in the 2″-3″ range, with totals between 3″-6″ through southern Arkansas.Remember, if roads become submerged under water in the case of flash flooding do not walk or drive through those flooded roads. It’s a high possibility to see Flash Flood Watches and Warnings over the next few days.
