The Grambling State football team completed its first morning practice of preseason camp on Tuesday morning old Tiger Stadium game and practice field at the university’s track.

To open up the new month, the Tigers pulled out the pads for the first time this camp. Lots of physical action took place between the offensive and defensive units during the team drills, despite the players still acclimating to the heat.

“It was the first day where we had a full practice,” head coach Broderick Fobbs said. “We cut 25 minutes out of practice the first two days just to get them acclimated to the weather, and being back on the field and wearing their helmets and the pads and things of that nature. It was the first day of pads and first day of being out here in the morning, but it was also a first full practice, which I thought they responded well to for the most part.”

“We do have to work our way into football shape. There’s a difference in being in weightlifting shape and football shape. I think we’ll get there. We just have to keep grinding and keep pushing and keep going.”

After another 9:35 a.m. practice tomorrow in shells, the G-Men will be in full pads for Thursday morning’s practice set for the same time and same location.
