RUSTON — Rice starting pitcher Jon Duplantier entered his team’s contest versus Louisiana Tech only surrendering three home runs this season. He gave up three on Thursday night, as Tech powered to a 12-2 victory over No. 16 Rice.
In the bottom of the second inning, third baseman Chase Lunceford hit a solo home run to right field to put the Dogs on the board. Then, with Cody Daigle on second base, catcher Brent Diaz hit an inside the park home run. At that point Tech led 3-0.
On the mound for the home team, it was Phillip Diehl, who struck out six batters in seven innings of work.
The Bulldogs have a chance to win the series on “Senior Night” on Friday at 6:00.
