UPDATE: MONROE, La (10:00p) — President Donald Trump will be heading to Monroe for the first time next week.

Locals spoke out about how they feel on the president’s trip to the twin cities, “I don’t know Trump, I do like his business, so if he endorses it I endorse it,” said Trevor Studer.

The last time a sitting president has been to Monroe was over 36 years ago.

President Donald Trump will be in Monroe to rally for Republican candidate for Governor, Eddie Rispone and there has been a wide range of reactions from the community.

“I haven’t heard any good things about Rispone, so if Trump’s endorsing him…” said Abby Potor.

“I really wanted to go to the other rally they had down south, and I’m really glad they’re doing one in Monroe. It’s easier for me to go to,” said Nina Simpson.

Some find it surprising the Monroe Civic Center was chosen for the republican rally.

“Well I think that’s pretty exciting, you don’t think Monroe would be a stop but apparently it is,” said Dale Antley.

With the news of President Trump’s arrival breaking on Thursday, some residents registered for their tickets to the rally the moment they heard. They say it’s not just to support President Trump and Rispone, but also for the lifetime experience.

“I’m excited about just being apart of the experience, I’ve never been to a presidential rally, being able to meet a president or anything like that. I’m very political,” said Simpson.

Though a recent poll shows Rispone leading 51 to 41 percent over Governor John Bel Edwards, many believe that having Trump endorse Rispone could make a win harder for Edwards.

“Probably so I think Governor Edwards being a democrat is probably not in his favor where we are; but then again that’s why you have an election,” said Antley.

For others, it solidifies their vote for Governor Edwards.

“I think it could anger some people. People who don’t back Trump would absolutely not want to vote for Rispone then,” said Potor.

UPDATE: MONROE, La. — It’s confirmed, the President will be coming to Monroe on Wednesday, November 6.

According to www.donaldjtrump.com, the rally will be held at the Monroe Civic Center and will start at 7:00 PM.

You can only register up to two tickets per mobile number and are subject to a first come first serve basis.

ORIGINAL: SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – President Donald Trump has tentatively scheduled a trip to Monroe next week to rally for Republican candidate for Governor Eddie Rispone.

The exact date and location of the rally is still being determined.

President Trump held a Republican rally in Lafayette ahead of the October 12 election. Since then, he has endorsed Rispone in his race against Democratic incumbent Governor John Bel Edwards.

Vice President Mike Pence held a private fundraiser earlier this week in Baton Rouge for Rispone and held a GOP unity rally the week after the October 12 election.

Monroe is the biggest city inside Republican Congressman Ralph Abraham’s district.

Abraham, who represents the 5th Congressional District, came in third in the October 12 primary election and has also endorsed Rispone. A recent poll showed Rispone leading in the district 51 to 41 percent over Edwards.
