West Monroe neighborhood evacuated after gas leak

UPDATE: WEST MONROE, La. — (4/29/19 3 P.M.) Some residents have been let back into their homes after a gas leak evacuates a West Monroe neighborhood.

Officials with Atmos Energy say the line is still leaking, but the leak itself is under control. The area affected has been trimmed back allowing some citizens back into their homes.

Officials also say that the scene should be cleared within the next few hours.

ORIGINAL: WEST MONROE, La. — (4/29/19) Residents at one West Monroe neighborhood are being evacuated after a gas leak was reported.

West Monroe Police say a construction company accidentally struck a gas line in the Montgomery Avenue, Reagan Street area around 10:00 a.m. Monday morning.

As a precaution, the area is being evacuated until they can get the leak secured.
