Weather Forecast- Monday, January 15th

News

Good Monday morning! It’s a bitter cold start outside today with temps in the mid 20’s across the area. You’ll likely need some extra time to scrape some ice off the windshield. Temperatures today will warm up a bit into the mid 50’s for the high with sunny skies and winds from the southwest. Later tonight we will see rain chances increase as a cold front drapes across the area and after sunset that rain will eventually change over into snow.

As the cold front progresses through the ArkLaMiss, rain showers will change over into a wintry mix for a brief period before a complete changeover into snow once temperatures drop completely below freezing. A band of snow showers will push from north to south overnight into the early morning, with the highest totals across our coverage area likely focused around southern Arkansas and for areas north of I-20.

Along and north of I-20 is where the snow will have the biggest potential impact for travel in the morning, with totals in the 1″-3″ range bridges and overpasses will likely become covered with some roads see snowfall stick as well. If this is the case, be sure to drive slow on the roads and avoid travel if possible. Any snow that sticks to the road will certainly make those travel conditions slick and hazardous. Areas south of I-20 will see totals stay a bit lower, but could see up to an inch. Most spots through central LA will receive a dusting with snow sticking to colder surfaces.

Temperatures will only warm up into the lower 30’s tomorrow afternoon, so there is a good chance a lot of that snow will stick for at least a day or two on colder surfaces. We will be completely drying out by lunchtime as the snow should be over for most of us by late morning, and skies will gradually clear after that. Winds will be breezy so expect bitter cold wind chills all day with temps dropping into the teens Wednesday morning and single digit wind chills possible! Keep the pets inside and stay warm!
