Sheriff: Man struck by officer’s patrol unit in Bastrop

MOREHOUSE Parish — (4/22/19) The Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating after a Bastrop patrol unit struck a pedestrian Friday.

The accident happened around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019. on McCreight St. near Cherry Ridge Rd. in Bastrop, Louisiana.

According to the sheriff’s Office, a pedestrian, identified as Tristen Sands, was walking down the middle of the roadway wearing all black clothing.

Another person who walking with the victim tried to get Sands to get on the sidewalk.  Sands was hit by a Bastrop Police Unit. 

He was transported to Morehouse General Hospital and then airlifted to LSU Shreveport. 

The sheriff’s office is currently looking into reports where other drivers may have had to avoid Sands in the roadway before the officer hit him. 

The accident is still under investigation. 

The name of the officer involved is not being released at this time.
