UPDATE: Richland Parish School Board Superintendent Sheldon Jones has issued a statement following the Rayville High School lockdown earlier Thursday morning.

The administration at Rayville High School was made aware of a rumor of a weapon being brought onto campus. No weapon was found to be in the possession of any individual or on the premises. In a proactive measure, the school informed the Rayville Police Department and Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office of the rumor. At no time was the school placed on lockdown by school administration, Rayville Police Department, or Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office. Student safety is the top priority of Rayville High School and the Richland Parish School Board. No other information is available at this time.
