Newsfeed Now for April 26: Meet ‘Thugnasty’, Gymnastics Olympian to coach Razorbacks

Newsfeed Now

On Newsfeed Now for April 26 we began the show in the ring. Mixed Martial Arts is one of the fastest growing sports. A young Arkansas MMA fighter is quickly rising to fame with a name that is as memorable as its namesake, Bryce Mitchell goes by Thugnasty.

Friday’s other stories with scroll times:

6:17 – A gymnastics star is headed for Fayetteville. For the first time, a gold medal Olympian is now a college coach. Jordyn Wieber won gold in the London Summer Games in 2012. Now, at just 23-years-old she is taking over the gymnastics program at the University of Arkansas. She joined us to talk about her new role.

11:26 – Last night’s rain in Nashville couldn’t dampen spirits as college players became pros. Round one of the NFL Draft is in the books. Though, the big talk of the night was more about the city than the sports. Nashville made this business gathering a party among friends. WKRN’s Brie Thiele took us behind the scenes.

15:40 – We transitioned from football to an unfamiliar past time in the Gulf of Mexico, the Mullet Toss. It’s where you pick up a fish and toss it as far as you can on the Florida Alabama line. This activity takes place at the legendary Flora-bama Bar. Bryant Clerkley joins us with more.

19:00 – To wrap up the show we have a heartfelt story from Fort Smith. We’ve all heard the sayings, “age is nothing but a number” and “beauty ages like fine wine”. Well, all of these are true for 97-year-old Jessi Pittman who was named Arkansas State Queen. She claimed the crown during the Arkansas Health Care Association Pageant. KARK’s Michael Esparza shares her story.
