Trump Arrives For North Korea Summit

National News

(2/26/19) President Trump arrived in Vietnam early Tuesday to a grand welcome.

The president and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will meet in Hanoi this week for a second summit, hoping  to forge a path for North Korea to surrender its nuclear weapons.

The president will try to sell Kim on a bright future for North Korea, painting the region as a potential economic powerhouse if it gives up its nuclear ambitions.

After the first summit, President Trump declared North Korea to no longer be a nuclear threat, but the nation actually widened its nuclear program afterward.

Expectations are low on Capitol Hill.

“I’m not expecting anything dramatic,” says Louisiana’s Senator John Kennedy.  “I hope we make progress, but this is gonna be more of a marathon in my opinion.”

“No one wants to see a repeat of the same movie, no one wants another summit that’s more about optics and photo ops than progress,” says Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
