Secretary defends citizenship question

National News

(3/14/19) Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross is under fire for a question on the 2020 census that asks if you are a U.S. Citizen.

States like California worry that even legal immigrants won’t participate in the census because of the question, which they claim could cost the state money and seats in Congress.

They’ve challenged the citizenship question in court, and won twice, but the Trump Administration has appealed the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

California Congress Woman Jackie Speier says documents and emails show Secretary Ross lied to Congress when he said the Citizenship question was NOT his idea.
