CAHOKIA, Ill. (KTAL) – (4/22/19) Kshawn Ballwin also didn’t have a driver’s license. He told the officer he knew he was not supposed to drive, but he felt the job opportunity was more important than anything else.

That’s when Cahokia Police Officer Rick Germoules made a choice.

“Something came upon me. Whatever it was, God said ‘give him a little break,’ so that’s what I did,” Germoules said.

So Germoules got him safely home and then drove Ballwin to the interview himself.

“When he said he was going to take me to my interview, that just took it all the way,” said Ballwin.

Ballwin now has a job and Gemoules, who is the school resource officer for the Cahokia School District, says he feels like he is better connected to his community.

“You get to see what goes on out here, so you know you have a good understanding,” explained Officer Germoules, who says that because of his own background, “I can relate to him….it was difficult times sometimes.”
