Man biking across-country to educate on rare genetic disorder, makes stop in Scott

SCOTT, La. (KLFY) – (4/24/19) Jo Le Bouter is an accomplished author and cyclist-hiker from France.

After his nephew was diagnosed with Wolfram syndrome, a rare autosomal-recessive genetic disorder which affects the central nervous system (especially the brainstem), that causes diabetes mellitus, optic atrophy, deafness, Bouter felt the need to educate people on the disorder.

On February 23rd, the 68 year-old left San José, Costa Rica headed for Orlando Florida on a bicycle to educate people along the way on the disorder.

Two months later, on April 23, Bouter arrived in Scott, where the Scott Fire Department provided him a place to rest, before he continues on his journey.
