(NBC News) – (4/19/19) Comedian Shelly Gossman, who has writing credits at “Saturday Night Live” and the NBC sitcom “A.P. Bio,” is teaching an improv class for cancer survivors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. She’s also been through cancer twice.
“You don’t lose your sense of humanity and wonder and laughter when you’re sick,” said Gossman.
From what doctors have observed so far in another cancer survivor improv group, it’s having a measurable effect.
“Improv has made a big impact on depression, on anxiety, on well-being,” said Dr. Arash Asher, the Director of Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Shelly Gossman wrote the episode of “A.P. Bio” that airs tonight at 8:30 ET on NBC.
