UPDATE: (KTAL) – (6/28/19) Former Caddo Parish teacher Sharron Settlemire, 72, was found guilty of attempted molestation. A Caddo jury deliberated two and a half hours to reach the verdict.
The teacher who retired in 2002 was arrested in 2017 and charged with molestation of a girl who was 16 at the time. She is now 33.
Both the defendant and victim had large groups of supporters in the court room and bailiffs had to escort Settlemire supporters out after the verdict due to inappropriate comments directed at the victim’s family.
Sharon Settlemire will appear in court on July 3rd, 2019 for sentencing. She could face up to seven and a half years and will have to register as a sex offender.
UPDATE: (KTAL) – (6/26/19) Testimony continued Tuesday in the trial of a former Caddo P.E. teacher accused of committing inappropriate sexual acts with a minor more than 18 years ago.

On the witness stand in Caddo District Court, Settlemire’s accuser testified that the molestation happened every day after school for two years and involved watching a television show, drinking alcohol and having sex for one to two hours.
However, upon cross-examination, the accuser admitted the television series did not premiere until four years after the alleged crimes began.
Testimony will resume June 26.
ORIGINAL STORY — SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL) – (6/24/19) The trial of a 72-year-old former high school teacher and coach accused of sexually molesting a juvenile is scheduled to begin Monday in Caddo District Court.
Sharron Settlemire, who taught physical education and served as fencing coach at Caddo Magnet High School from 1980 until she retired in 2002, was arrested in October 2017, following an investigation by Shreveport Police.
The arrest came after Shreveport Police Sex Crime investigators developed information that Settlemire allegedly committed inappropriate sexual acts on a 15-year-old juvenile beginning in September 2000.
She was working as a teacher/coach at Magnet when the alleged assaults occurred.
