Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Two Louisiana sheriff’s deputies are accused of bringing drugs and other contraband into a parish jail.

News outlets reports Lafayette Parish sheriff’s deputies, 57-year-old Dennis Brasseaux and 46-year-old John Gradnigo, were arrested Thursday as part of an investigation into the introduction of contraband into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Sheriff Mark Garber says both men face a malfeasance in office count and contraband-related charges.

In addition, Gradnigo faces charges of possession with intent to distribute Schedule I and Schedule II controlled dangerous substances.

Garber says both men have been placed on unpaid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

It was unknown if either man is represented by an attorney.

The investigation is ongoing. The Sheriff’s Office says additional charges and arrests are expected.
