(1/20/19) The West Monroe Police Department arrested a man found with several glass methanphetamine pipes, up to 100 syringes, and a stolen pistol in his vehicle.
WMPD was dispatched to the Animal Hospital on Commercial Parkway in reference to an alarm. When officers arrived, the veterinarian Bob Bell said it was a false alarm, but told officers there was an unknown couple in a van parked in front of his business and he would like for them leave.
Officers contacted the couple, 33-year-old Michael Baines and 31-year-old Samantha Burns. A warrant search showed both had outstanding warrants with OPSO.
Baines was placed in handcuffs and a search found 5.1 grams of suspected methanphetamine, 24 adderall pills, 19 unknown white pills, meth pipe and several syringes. Post Miranda Baines told officers the items were his.
Baines refused to allow officers to search the vehicle.
After officers obtained a judge approved search warrant authorities found several glass methanphetamine pipes, up to 100 syringes, a digital scale and a Smith & Wesson M&P 9MM pistol under the driver’s seat that was reported stolen through OPSO.
Baines told officers he purchased the gun for $300 from a guy named “Jason” who moved to Colorado.
The couple were placed under arrest and transported to WMCC for processing and later transported to OCC.
Baines was charged with Illegal carrying weapon in the presence of narcotics, Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Schedule II (Methanphetamine), Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Schedule II (Adderall), Prohibited acts; Drug Paraphenalia
His bond has not been set yet.
Burns didn’t have any illegal contraband on her person.
She was charged with Failure to Appear and bonded on $500.
