UPDATE (12:00 P.M.): Two people are dead after a trustee left his assignment at Wade Correctional Center.
On July 27, 2017, at about 1:00 p.m., a trustee at the David Wade Correctional Center near Homer walked away from his work assignment. The preliminary investigation revealed 39-year-old Deltra Henderson, a trustee at the prison, walked away from his assignment. It is believed he then stole a vehicle and abducted 19-year-old Amanda Carney. Carney is the stepdaughter of an assistant warden at the prison.
A short time later, Henderson crashed the vehicle he had stolen in a remote area north of the prison. Carney’s body was later found there.
The trustee then made contact with another resident in the area and stole another vehicle before crashing it as well. The trustee subsequently made entry into a nearby residence and located an unsecured firearm. As prison guards closed in on the residence, a gunfight ensued and the trustee barricaded himself in the residence.
The Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bossier City Police Department, US Marshal’s Office Task Force and the Louisiana State Police SWAT Team established a perimeter and eventually made entry with assistance from the Bossier City Fire Department. Henderson was found dead inside of the residence.
The investigation will be handled by the Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations.
