UPDATE (8/30/17 3:00): Louisiana State Police have released the identity of the suspect involved in Wednesday’s officer involved shooting.
Investigators with Louisiana State Police have identified the suspect as 22-year-old Joshua Mark Cloud of Knoxville, Tennessee.
This investigation remains active and ongoing.
UPDATE (3:30 P.M.): The deputy that was involved in a shooting Thursday afternoon has been released from the hospital and is reported to be in good condition.
According to Officials, Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Luker conducted a traffic stop in Simsboro, LA.
During the course of the stop the suspect, a white male believed to be from the state of Tennessee, became non-compliant and combative.
The suspect, produced a weapon and fired striking the Deputy Luker in his vest. Deputy Luker then returned fire on the suspect.
The suspect was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
This incident occurred in very close proximity to Simsboro High School.
Out of caution, the school was placed on temporary lock down until the scene was secured.
The suspect’s name has been withheld, pending the notification of next of kin.
KTVE/KARD has just gotten reports that Simsboro High School is on lockdown after a deputy was shot nearby.
According to the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln Parish Deputy, Kyle Luker, was conducting a traffic stop on I-20.
The suspect got off the interstate and stopped on highway 80 in front of Simsboro High School.
The suspect then shot Deputy Luker.
Luker’s bullet proof vest blocked the bullet and the deputy is reported to be okay.
The suspect has been reported dead.
The suspect’s name has not yet been released, but we are told they were from Tennessee.
Louisiana State Police are now working the incident.
The school was put on lockdown just as a precaution.
