The town of Warren is usually pretty quiet, but that all changed Tuesday afternoon.
Officers arrested 35-year-old Alfonzo Hampton of Johnsville, Arkansas after he drove to the Warren Police Department with his father’s corpse.
Police searched the vehicle and found 58-year-old Fred Hampton’s body in the trunk of the car.
People in the neighborhood beside the Police Department are still on edge.
Neighbors say streets were blocked off when Hampton brought his dad to the police station.
They said they didn’t know what was going on, but it didn’t’ make them feel too good.
“At first we thought it might be some sort of celebrity coming because of the way they had everything blocked off,” a neighbor said.
But, when he found out exactly what was going on, red flags went up.
“It’s very unusual for us to have this type of thing happen, but it doesn’t make you feel secure,” said the neighbor.
He instantly thought about his family’s safety.
“You don’t know during that drive if he still had the weapon with him or not, which means that during the time that he was driving here with his father in the trunk of the car he also had a weapon on him, cause I’m assuming he turned in a weapon, so he could have done anything wanting to track here with that weapon before he got here,” the neighbor said.
Alfonzo Hampton is now charged with First Degree Murder.
The body of Fred Hampton has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death.
