UPDATE: Fire officials work to extinguish apartment, woods fire

Local News

UPDATE (4:30 P.M.): Monroe Fire Investigator Antonio Brown says the call came in around 2:30 Thursday afternoon about a fully engulfed fire at the apartments in the 5000 block of Blanks Street in Monroe.

The woods behind the apartments also caught fire.

Both Monroe Fire and Ouachita Parish Fire are on scene.

They say the dry and windy weather helped the fire spread quickly.

“You’ve got incomplete construction of the structure that allows for rapid fire spread, the wind conditions have also contributed to it as well, we’ve got it under control and hopefully we’ll have it completely extinguished shortly,” says Antonio Brown, Monroe Fire Department.

No injuries have been reported.

The Monroe Fire Department is currently on the scene of a massive fire at a vacant apartment complex in Monroe.

The fire is in the 5000-block of Blank Street in Monroe.

We have a crew headed to the scene. We will have more details at 5 and 6.
