(3/5/2019) The United Way of Northeast Louisiana recognized dozens of local businesses at Celebrating Excellence 2018 this morning. The event, held at ULM’s Bayou Pointe Event Center, is designed to honor the volunteers and corporate partners in the region who help The United Way complete their mission of improving the community.
NBC 10 & FOX 14 were recognized with the 2018 VolunteerUNITED award. The United Way highlighted our effort in 2018 connected to our Founder’s Day. In that effort, NBC 10 & FOX 14, along with Mac’s Fresh Market, The Wellspring, The United Way, and thousands of our viewers, raised over 10 1/2 tons of food for homeless veterans.
The United Way also pointed out our One Paycheck Away special report. It was a full day of in-depth reports highlighting The United Way’s ALICE report. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. About 57% of people living in Northeast Louisiana are at or below the ALICE threshold, often living paycheck-to-paycheck. The reports also highlighted the many resources in our area to help people get ahead and get out of financial strife.
