(2/22/19) President Trump is one step closer to de-funding Planned Parenthood.

His new rule bans “the use of Title X funds to perform, promote, refer for, or support abortion as a method of family planning.”

A statement from the Department of Health and Human Services goes on to say the rule “permits, but no longer requires, non-directive pregnancy counseling.”

It also requires financial and physical separation of clinics and activities receiving federal money.

Title X pays more than a quarter of a billion dollars each year for 4-million people to receive birth control and other reproductive health services.

Reproductive rights groups have opposed the plan.

The National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association calls it a quote “clear attack on the family planning safety net.”

The federal rule update replaces those that have been in place for 19 years.
