Tragedy Strikes Winnsboro Family Again: How You Can Lend A Helping Hand

Local News

“It was never in a million years that I thought we would be going through this so soon,” Steven Mays said.

Last April this family was left devastated by a house fire, leaving 31-year-old Derrick Boley and two little boys dead.

Miraculously, his girlfriend, Victoria Guthrie, and two of her children survived.

But just months later, tragedy strikes this family again– with Guthrie’s death.

“She was still having breathing problems and different things that had her in and out of the hospital, but overall we honestly thought she was gonna pull through,” her sister, Amanda Mays, said.

Now Guthrie’s two children, 7-year-old Breanna, and 2-year-old Kori, are forced to grow up without their mother.

“Now we’ll hold em tight,” Amanda said. “I know she’s in Heaven holding her two other babies right now so we’ll do all we can to hold these two tight and make a way.”

She started a GoFundMe account to pay for her sister’s funeral costs and to help support Kori and Breanna.

“We would just like to ask anybody who would like to be a part of helping– to do that would be a big blessing,” Steven said.

They’re also asking for prayers.

Through this hardship, this family said they are going to stay strong, making sure Breanna and Kori are loved and supported.
