Swanson Center officials issue update on escapees

Earlier today officials reported that three juveniles had escaped from Swanson Center for Youth.

Details surrounding the escape are limited but officials released a statement about the escape.

At least one of the juveniles has been detained at this time.

Below is the statement release with the latest information into the incident:

On January 30, 2017 at approximately 9:00p, three youth escaped from the Swanson Center for Youth in Monroe.

The Office of Juvenile Justice immediately ceased all movement at the facility and began making official notifications. An investigation into the circumstances that led to the escape began immediately to aid in apprehending the youth.

The youth were entered into the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) database.

A Command Center has been established at Swanson Center for Youth, with a secondary center in Baton Rouge. The Center will gather, track, and distribute information on the youth to assist in their apprehension.

OJJ is working with the Louisiana State Police, the US Marshal Taskforce, local law enforcement, and is utilizing the State Fusion Center for support.  

At approximately, 1:00pm on January 31st, one of the youth was apprehended with the aid of local law enforcement.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of any of these youth should contact local law enforcement or the command center at 318-651-4890.

Due to the confidential nature of juvenile records, OJJ cannot release information on the youth to the media. We have released full information to law enforcement to aid in the apprehension of these youth.
