The Monroe Police Department is searching for a sexually assault/ arson suspect after they say a 78-year-old woman was taken against her will.

Police say around 6:30 a.m. they were called to a crash in the 2400 block of Outlet Street. 
That’s where they found the 78-year-old female victim. 
Several minutes prior, the Monroe Fire Department responded to a call at the victim’s home in the 200 block of Maddox Street.

Officers were able to connect the victim a to a fire at her home. 
According to investigators, the suspect broke into the woman’s home, sexually assaulted her, and then set her house on fire. 

Family tells NBC10’s Bria Jones they are still in shock. 

“She’s a very sweet person like I said she’ll give you her last. She feeds everybody in the neighborhood. Basically she was the neighborhood mother. Whoever, did this too her i hope they catch him and I hope spends the rest of her life in jail,” said the victim’s niece Princess Whittley. 

The suspect is described as a bald black male between 25-55. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jean shorts and white shoes. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to arrest. Call Crime Stoppers at 318-329-2600 if you have any information.
