Suspect arrested in connection with Thursday evening homicide

(04/18/19) Police have arrested a man they believe is connected to a homicide that happened Wednesday evening.

Around 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, local police were called to a shooting incident near Hawthorne St. When authorities arrived, they found a 22-year old male lying on the ground near a vacant lot.

The male was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. While being taken to the Medical Center of South Arkansas, the victim died from his injuries.

Qy’Tarius Demon Tyler, 20, was arrested Thursday afternoon around 3 p.m. Tyler is wanted in connection with killing the male victim. He is being charged with first degree murder, possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm by certain persons.

“It’s tragic. No one likes a loss of life,” Lieutenant Christopher Lutman said. “These are two young people, the victim and the suspect.”

Police haven’t released the victim’s name. His body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy. 

Tyler’s first court appearance will be Monday.
