(02/13/19) Strong Arkansas may be a small town but Mayor Daryell Howell is trying to bring some big changes to the community.

“People come through and their first impression can be that makes a difference on whether or not they choose to live in your city,” said Mayor Howell.

Strong’s presence on Highway 82 isn’t getting the attention the town deserves but some future renovation projects to some older buildings should attract the residents and visitors.

The Hurryback convienence store is first on the list of old buildings getting restored. The building was donated to the city by the E&M Oil Company in El Dorado. Soon, it will be Strong’s new fitness center.

“They either have to drive to Crossett or El Dorado which in both cases could be up to 20 miles,” said. Mayor Howell.

There have already been a lot of strides in the right direction though. There’s a new community center that was built in 2016 and a new restaurant. These changes and future changes is what the mayor hopes will bring pride to the community.

“We want to create an impression or a facelift to our town where people when they come through theres’ some excitement,” Mayor Howell said.

The Mayor has also been looking into building some apartment homes to attrace more families to relocate to the area.
