Storms open massive sinkhole on a West Monroe Bridge

A little patch in the road could be a big problem for drivers in West Monroe.

Residents reported the return of a large pothole.

City workers were able to patch the hole up on a Sunday, but it opened back up four days later.

But fixing the hole isn’t the problem mother nature is.

“The water is usually our enemy on everything,” Dean Wilkerson, of the Louisiana Department of Transportation, said.

However, with bad weather keeping the hole closed is going to be a challenge.

“As more rain hits it’s just tough for the contractors and everybody to keep up with keeping the roads open,” Wilkerson said.

First responders have been working on this one around the clock.

“We’re going to be monitoring this 24 hours to make sure that we keep it open and keep it safe,” he said.
