Sterlington’s $11.1M sports complex officially opens with Dixie World Series baseball tournament

Local News

(7/26/18) This morning, the town of Sterlington saw their dreams come true.

Back in November of 2015, Mayor Vern Breland and his town council introduced to voters a 0.5 cent sales tax that would help fund a baseball & softball sports complex.

The measure passed by just 12 votes and today, there are 12 fields that would rival any like it in Louisiana.

With the help of a grant from the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Sterlington’s public works department, and plenty of volunteers the $11.1 Million complex is open.

The economic impact on Ouachita parish, and particularly the town of Sterlington, will be tremendous.

The tournament schedule, which brings in thousands of dollars every yaer, is booked thru next year and they’re already working on 2020.

On Saturday, the Dixie Majors World Series will throw out the first pitch of the 5-day tournament.
