(11/12/18) The Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for answers after a 5-year-old found her mother dead after being shot by a stray bullet.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident happened on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Ringgold Police Department officers responded to a report of gunfire at Bienville Apartments, Phase 1 located on Military Road.

Once officers arrived, they ascertained that an altercation on the parking lot involving at least three individuals turned into gunfire.

At that time, a 5-year-old resident approached a Ringgold PD officer and reported that the child’s mother would not wake up at which time the officer immediately responded where he located a deceased female later identified as Chanett M. Carter, age 31, a resident of the apartments.

Bienville Sheriff’s investigators were called to the scene where they discovered that Mrs. Carter had sustained a gunshot to the back of her shoulder resulting in her death.

It appeared that a bullet had passed through the door of an adjoining apartment and through the wall striking the victim who was seated on the couch.

Later investigators made contact with a second gunshot victim identified as Isaiah Fritz Walter, age 19, who had a gunshot to the back of his shoulder.

Walter was less than cooperative but it is believed he was one of the individuals in the earlier scuffle which led to him being shot.

It appears the unknown assailant/assailants fired at Walter and an unknown black male who were running up the apartment stairwell.

IF ANYONE HAS INFORMATION AS TO THE IDENTITY OF THE ASSAILANT/ASSAILANTS OR WAS A WITNESS TO THE SHOOTING, PLEASE CONTACT BIENVILLE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE AT 318-894-9185.
