Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office investigate death of K9 Duke

Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at approximately 9:00 am, Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office’s K9 Duke died at the Caldwell Animal Clinic. 

Duke had been taken to Caldwell Animal Clinic by his handler on Tuesday, May 31st.

Deputy John Cummings reported finding Duke’s kennel tampered with and Duke missing from the kennel, around 1:30pm Wednesday. 

Deputy Cummings began to search his yard and located Duke inside of his patrol unit, near death due to heat exposure.

Duke had been assigned to Deputy Cummings for approximately seven months. Duke had been a member of Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office since December 2014. The death of K9 Duke is under investigation.
