Local News

Authorities in Mississippi continue their manhunt for a capital murder suspect they say escaped from a Vicksburg jail the morning of Wednesday, March 2nd.

According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, 33 year-old Rafael McCloud took a jailer hostage with a makeshift weapon and forced the jailer to give him his clothes.

Around 3:00 am Thursday morning, investigators recovered the green pants he took from the jailer, but there’s still no sign of McCloud.

Warren County, Mississippi Sheriff Martin Pace says McCloud could still be in the Vicksburg area.
Both the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) and the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force have joined the hunt.
McCloud is suspected in the murder of a 69 year-old woman in Vicksburg last summer.
He also faces charges of sexual battery, rape, arson, and home invasion.
Sheriff Pace says McCloud should be considered armed and dangerous.
