Real life 'Garfield the Cat' tips scale at 30 pounds

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) - A real life 'Garfield the Cat' is in Northwest Arkansas and ready to go to a new home.

The owner surrender at the Washington County Animal Shelter tips the scales at right around 30 pounds.

To put that into perspective that is about the weight of a toddler. Kennel Supervisor Rachel Ingals says the orange tabby was brought in Thursday and was immediately given the name of Garfield after causing quite a stir among the staff.

"I don't know that we've ever had a 30 pound cat here," Washington County Animal Shelter Kennel Supervisor Rachel Ingals admitted with a laugh. "He's a very big boy. We actually have him in a dog kennel right now, because our cat kennels are too small for him to move around in."

Though it is unlikely this Garfield actually eats full pans of lasagna, the shelter said he will be put on a diet immediately and is most likely the product of free-feeding. Garfield is available for adoption and the shelter encourages you to come by to see him for yourself.
