(7/6/2018) A West Monroe man is in jail after police say he shot and killed his nephew’s dog.

According to police, the incident started Thursday when 81-year-old Doyle Quimby turned off the power to the camper where his nephew was staying on Tidwell Road.

When Quimby wouldn’t turn it back on, his nephew tried to break into the building where the breaker was located so he could do it himself.

Officers say Quimby then went inside that building and fired two shots with a 40 caliber handgun through the wall towards his nephew, with the second one striking and killing his dog.

Quimby admitted to firing what he called “warning shots” to police.

He’s been charged with aggravated assault.

Quimby’s bond amount hadn’t been posted as of Friday morning.
