UPDATE: Conference held after the passing of 26-year-old Monroe Officer

MONROE, La. - UPDATE 5/22/18: A press conference was held this morning in regards to the passing of a Monroe Police Officer while on duty.

Mayor Mayo and Chief Ellis are holding the conference after 26-year-old Monroe Officer Ayrian Williams passed away Monday night.

It is being held at the Monroe Public Safety Center at 10:00 a.m. 


(UPDATE 10:30P.M.) Monroe Police have confirmed that they are investigating a single vehicle officer-involved car crash. 

Police say that the wreck happened around 7:00p.m. and the officer succumbed to injuries from the crash. 

The identity of the officer is not being released at this time. 

This is an ongoing investigation. We will keep you updated as we get more information. 


(5/21/2018) An accident on South 8th Street near Temple Drive in Monroe has claimed the life of one Monroe Police officer. According to our news content partners at the News-Star, MPD's Chief Eugene Ellis tells them a member of the force died in the crash Monday night.

Sources close to law enforcement tell NBC 10 the officer was responding to a call and crashed. We are still waiting on more details from Monroe Police at this time.
