(3/21/19) West Monroe Police arrested a local man caught stealing electronics from a church.

On Thursday, officers were dispatched to First Baptist Church in reference to a burglary alarm. Officers found Christopher Lee Barnett, 35, of West Monroe in the sanctuary taking computers and other electronics from the church.

Officers searched Barnett and found a wallet that was reported stolen earlier in the night. Barnett said he was the person who the wallet belonged to.

He told police he works for the church and was there cleaning the carpet. Later, church staff said they had never seen him before.

He was later transported to OCC where he was booked and charged with resisting an officer, illegal possession of stolen things and simple burglary of a religious building.

His bond was set at $500.
