Police: Man attempts to rob a Dollar Store armed with a gun and a large stick

Local News

MONROE, La. – (5/2/19) Monroe Police arrested a man attempting to rob a Dollar Store armed with a gun and a large stick.

An employee at the store told police two customers came in saying the suspect, 38-year-old Rodney Coleman, was pointing a gun at customers in the parking lot and swinging the large stick.

The suspect was asked by the employee to leave the parking lot. Coleman told the employee that he has killed before and will kill again and threatened to kill the police. The employee asked him to leave again and Coleman said, “No, what you need to do is go inside and get me that deposit.” The employee said Coleman then reached in his left pocket and showed him the handle of a firearm before leaving.

Officers found Coleman holding a pair of large hedge shears in the bushes at the 2400 block of Washington Street.

The store employee positively identified him but Coleman refused to give any information to identify himself to police. At OCC Coleman was identified by his brother who is an inmate.

Coleman was charged with Resisting an Officer and Armed Robbery.

His bond was set at $80,500.
