Police: Caregiver faces charges after leaving nursing home resident on the toilet for almost 2 hours

WEST MONROE, La. – (4/6/19) A Monroe woman faces cruelty to the infirmed charges after an investigation by West Monroe detectives.

On Oct. 12, 2018, a nursing home located in West Monroe, The Guest House, reported cruelty to a persons with infirmities on behalf of one of their residents. The victim was left on the toilet for approximately one and a half to two hours. Police say the victim activated the emergency button six times requesting help but did not receive any from the caregiver. The victim suffers from a disability in which he needs help standing and walking.

The caregiver assigned to the victim was 24-year-old Rachel Manning. Detectives learned Manning saw the victim’s emergency light but chose to ignore it. The victim reported Manning would say she was too busy to help him. Witnesses reported hearing Manning say that the victim was “going to learn today.”

Manning met with West Monroe detectives on Friday, April 5, 2019 where she was arrested and transported to OCC. 

She was charged with Cruelty to the Infirmed.
