Pet pig dies in West Monroe house fire

One family is saying goodbye to a dear friend after a fire started in their home.

The West Monroe Fire Department responded to the corner of Peach Street and Phillips Street around 2:40 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Officials tell us the fire started in the back of the house.

Two adults live in the home along with their pet pig. The adults made it out safely, but the pig did not.

The family said they had the pig since it was a baby.

Officials tell us the pig weighed about 400 pounds.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
