A traffic stop near Ajax on Friday morning led to the arrests of a California man and a Monroe woman on felony narcotics charges according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr.

On Friday morning May 6th at approximately 11:45 a.m., Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division were patrolling on Interstate-49 near Ajax, La., when they clocked a 2004 Ford Mustang traveling southbound, speeding 89 miles per hour in a posted 75 mph speed zone.

Deputies identified the operator of the vehicle was identified as Candace Patrice Roberson, 27, of Monroe, La.

A passenger in the vehicle was identified as DeShawn Dupree Lee, 24, of Sacramento, California.

Deputies say during the traffic stop, they learned during a computer background check, Roberson’s drivers license was suspended.

Deputies also smelled a strong marijuana odor coming from within the vehicle leading them to believe criminal activity existed.

Deputies asked Roberson if she had been smoking marijuana in which she responded “yes earlier”.

Deputies obtained permission to search the vehicle and occupants.

An additional deputy responded to the scene to assist.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered two bundles of suspected high grade marijuana weighing approximately two (2) pounds with a potential street value of $3000 dollars and $350 dollars US currency.

Deputies arrested:

*Candace Patrice Roberson, 27, of 22A Lock Drive, Monroe, La., transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Possession of CDS Schedule I Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Speeding and Driving under Suspension.

*DeShawn Dupree Lee, 24, of the 4200 block of Lotus Ave 4, Sacramento, California transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Possession of CDS Schedule I Marijuana with Intent to Distribute-2nd Offense.

Lee is on felony probation for a narcotics conviction in California was also arrested by Alexandria Police on December 19, 2015.

Roberson remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center with bond set by a Tenth Judicial District Court Judge at $10,000.

Lee remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center with bond set by a Tenth Judicial District Court Judge set at $20,000.

The vehicle was impounded by a local wrecker service.

The couple was reportedly traveling from Shreveport to Alexandria.

Natchitoches Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force Agents also assisted in the investigation.
