Life has been very different for Lynn Kari ever since Aug. 29, 2016.

“I was about two miles from my house with every expectation to make it home, making it to dinner, when another vehicle crossed over the center line and hit me straight on,” Kari said.

Kari was thrown from her motorcycle and when she regained consciousnesses, she thought her life was ending.

“I said God please take my life. I’ve had a great life, but I can’t do this,” she said.

Kari was life-flighted to LSU’s hospital in Shreveport.

She said her next memory was waking up in the ICU without an arm and a leg.

“It literally peeled the left side of my motorcycle off and it took and my arm and my leg behind me. Also causing my pelvis to completely tear in half,” Kari added.

The accident that changed her life involved a man named Jason Rockett.

He’s now charged with mowing down seven people in a crowd two weeks ago.

“I was sick to my stomach. I just can’t believe someone like that has given chance after chance after chance,” Kari said in disbelief.

After her accident, she said Rockett walked away with only a $150 ticket.

While a toxicology test was conducted on Kari after the collision, she said Rockett wasn’t required by authorities to take this test.

Therefore, he was able to keep his driver’s license and insurance, despite being ticketed several times for violations like hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle.

“Progressive Insurance kept him on their insurance when he had been arrested for operating a mobile meth lab,” Attorney Heath Hattaway said.

Together Kari and Heath are fighting to keep Rockett, and others who they said put motorists at risk, off the roads for good.

“That is negligence and the state of Louisiana needs to do something about it,” Hattaway added.

“I didn’t die that day. I’m supposed to ride. I’m gonna go on,” Kari added.

Despite everything Kari has gone through, she met the love of her life during this difficult time.

Kari said she was a nurse that took care of her at a recovery hospital. The two just got married in May 2017.
