According to our partners at The News-Star, all schools in the Morehouse Parish School district will dismiss students early through the beginning of September.
Superintendent Hazel Sellers said students at Delta Junior High need to be released at 1:30 p.m. over the next few weeks while repairs are made to the air conditioning system. While repairs had been made, she said, the new equipment is not working as it should with the older system in the building. The district is having other units installed.
Sellers said the district is concerned about the students’ comfort and wants the best for them. They know when there’s discomfort, students don’t learn as well.
Delta acts as a bus hub for students who go to the high school. In the morning, the students ride to Delta and then to the high school. In the afternoons, students ride from Bastrop High School to the junior high, then catch buses to their rural communities.
