BASTROP, La. (5/2/19) — Today, dozens of people gathered outside the Morehouse Parish Courthouse to unite in prayer.
It’s all to observe the National Day of Prayer that’s held each year on the first Thursday of May.
This is the second time the Morehouse Parish Ministerial Alliance is hosting the event in Bastrop.
More than fifteen congregations are participating in this year’s event coming together to pray in response to crime, education, first responders, government leaders and the community.
In the last two months, there has been a deadly officer-involved shooting and drowning of a young man within the city of Bastrop. The group says there plan is to pray for the parish’s growth.
“My hope is that when people leave tonight they will be inspired to go and make a difference in our community. That they will be ready to recognize the good that lies within us to draw that forward to bring that out as god calls us to,” said event organizer Rev. JoAnne Pounds.
The group says they plan to hold peace walks in the future to keep the spirits high in the community.
