Monroe Man Arrested After Striking a Deputy

Local News

A Monroe man is in custody after police say he struck a Ouachita Parish deputy overnight.

According to the arrest affidavit, Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputies were assisting AMR in rescuing a person from a storm drain in the 600-block of Winnsboro Road.

Once the man was rescued and taken into an ambulance, his brother, Ernest Richard tried to climb in.

Deputies say they asked him to move back and leave the scene, but Richard refused.

Deputies say in the affidavit that they tried to escort him back, at which time he turned around and struck a deputy near the face and shoulder area.

The affidavit goes on to say that the deputy took Richard to the ground and the man continued to resist arrest.

Multiple deputies were needed to secure handcuffs around the man, and he later told the deputy “I should kill you, I hope you die.”

Richard was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center and faces charges of battery on an officer, intimidation of an officer, remaining after forbidden, and public intimidation.

His bond is set at $6200.
