(5/2/19) MISSISSIPPI — A Mississippi man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for burning a church in 2016.

45-year-old Andrew McClinton started a fire inside the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville where he was a member.

McClinton claimed the fire was accidental, saying he rubbed two wires together but investigators determined McClinton set the fire to hide his illegal activities there.

The words “vote Trump” were spray painted on the side of the building causing officials to investigate the vandalism as a hate crime.

McClinton was convicted of arson of a place of worship.
