A substitute teacher for the Camden School District was arrested for 1st Degree Sexual Assault.

Maurio Williams of Camden is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a minor.

Investigators say Williams was subbing at the Camden Fairview High School at the time.

Police say the relationship was consensual, and none of the acts alleged were performed on campus.

Officials say Williams does not have a prior record.

Williams’ bond was set to $24,000 and has since been released.

The Camden School District released the following statement today:

“The Camden Fairview School District is aware that a formerly contracted substitute teacher has been arrested and charged with first-degree sexual assault. Upon discovering inappropriate information on a computer accessed by the individual, CFSD administration took immediate action to remove the individual from campus, notify appropriate law enforcement authorities, and remove the individual from the CFSD substitute list.

CFSD administrators work very hard to secure qualified substitutes to fill in when district employees are absent. Over the past few years, CFSD (along with approximately 75% of other Arkansas school districts) has used the services of SubTeach USA, a company based in Paragould, to provide contracted substitutes. The individual involved in this incident was provided through SubTeach and last passed a criminal background check in March 2017. CFSD has notified SubTeach of the individual’s arrest, and SubTeach has also removed the individual from their substitute list.

CFSD will continue to cooperate with authorities as this matter is investigated.”
