(5/2/19) PURVIS, Miss. (AP) — Bond has been set for a woman jailed after the Lamar County sheriff says she killed a man and left his body in a freezer.
36-year-old Samantha Simmons of Purvis was given a $50,000 bond for murder and two other charges in connection to the death of 54-year-old Thomas Burns back in May 2018.
Simmons had been held without bond since June 2018.
Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel says Burns was reported missing on May 21st, but his body was found in the freezer of his own home the next day.
Rigel said Burns died of asphyxiation.
Simmons’ bond was set by Judge Anthony Mozingo on Tuesday.
Simmons’ attorney, Tom Fortner, says he requested bond because there was no evidence that Simmons is a flight risk or a threat to the community.
