A man has been arrested and accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in Union County, Arkansas.
According to The Union County Sheriff’s Office, they received a call on Saturday, April 14, 2018 that a victim had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted.
The victim told officials that the suspect, Grant Suthrlen, told her he had too much to drink and he needed a ride.
Suthrlen took her down the road, and he proceeded to tell her that she needed to turn around because she missed a turn.
When she turned around, he put the car in park and threatened her with a weapon.
He made her turn the car off, and he hit her several times and forced her to have intercourse with him.
Union County officials say she gave a description and first name for the suspect because she had prior knowledge of him, but not specifically.
Suthrlen was arrested Saturday afternoon and booked into jail.
He had interviews this morning where he confessed to the crime and another one that happened in the city May 27th.
In that particular crime, a female jogger was assaulted and abducted.
She was taken to a location where she was later found unresponsive by people passing by.
The victim was beaten and raped, and her pelvic bone was broken.
They were able to conclude that Suthrlen was the suspect in this case due to details that matched in both cases.
Suthrlen also had physical injuries that were obvious that connected him to the second case.
He had his first appearance today.
No bond was issued.
There is a warrant forthcoming for the incident in May, and he will be formally charged on Wednesday.
He has been charged with Rape, Kidnapping, 1st Degree Battery, and Theft of Property- Motor Vehicle.
