(1/28/19) The Monroe Police Department has arrested one man after they say he fired a gun at another person at a local club.

Joey Lawrence, 32 of Monroe, was arrested on January 27, 2019.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to the club located at 1211 Powell Avenue on Sunday around 1:27 a.m.

Police say they met with bouncers at the club who told them they put a man with dreads, wearing a black shirt and jeans out of the club because of a disturbance.

One man stated to officers that the suspect went to his car and came back inside of the club with a handgun.

While in the club, the bouncer said the suspect pointed the handgun directly at him and shot it once.

The bouncer said he was able to dodge getting hit by the bullet.

The suspect fled the scene after the incident.

The other bouncer said he was able to get the suspects tag information off the car he fled the scene in.

The tag provided to the police belonged to a white Toyota Solara at a specific address in Monroe.

Officers were able to track down the vehicle on State Street and made a traffic stop at 1508 State Street.

Police identified the driver as Joey Lawrence and they say he fit the suspect’s description.

One of the bouncers was also able to identify Lawrence as the suspect.

Joey admitted to officers that he had been at the club and got into an altercation with a bouncer, but he denied shooting at anyone.

Lawrence has been booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on one count of aggravated assault with a firearm.

His bond has not yet been set.
